Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake have it right, if there’s anywhere on the Amalfi Coast that merits consideration for a celebrity wedding, it’s Ravello.
Ravello for some reason seems to stay out of the Italian limelight. Maybe because it watches over the coastline like a bald eagle in waiting and it certainly is just as rare a bird as the US icon. Other famous Amalfi villages – the namesake itself Amalfi, plus Positano, Atrani, Praiano, Massa Lubrense, and Sorrento – are all lined up along the trecherous Amalfi Coast Drive and are easy prey for bottleneck traffic jams that trap innocent vacationers for hours in its claws. In the meanwhile, Ravello silently glares down at the bumper to bumper queues and cradles its visitors in its snug nest, soothing them with soft cultural events like the Ravello Festival dedicated to classical music, art, and folklore and swaying them in its lush mediterranean gardens.
The quaint 12th century Municipal Building is the epitome of historical mystique for a Civil Ceremony set in a small Italian garden where your vows can be read if you ask in advance and if the weather is good (which it is almost all year round). The wedding office is run by a single, dedicated public employee who takes care to space ceremonies so that brides don’t meet each other, which is bad luck in Italy.
There are numerous locations for a reception, all serving exquisite southern Italian cuisine and enjoying fabulous views of the med. Accommodations abound too, and what’s nice about Ravello is whether you’re someone or no one, everyone is taken under its wing for a memorable Wedding in Italy.
